There’s no shortage of entertainment options in the Pearl. From art galleries to live music, we’ll point you in the right direction.
Here in the Pearl, we have a bit of everything... boutiques, spas, bookstores, cupcakes, and now - last but not least - we even have our own tattoo shop. Pearl District Tattoo opened mid-December at 1255 NW 9th Ave., retail suite #013, in the Pinnacle building. And like most businesses around here, it's been designed specifically for this unique neighborhood. Stop by to check it out and meet owner Nate Stokes and his talented team. It's exciting to see this portion of the neighborhood develop in recent months - from Fez Studio nearby, to the new Pearl Specialty Market & Spirits around the block, we're finding more reasons to hang out on the Pearl's north end.
Check out some the neighborhood's sweetest treats on AM Northwest today! Owners Lisa and Peter showed off some of their delicious creations... and we've been craving cupcakes since sometime after 9:30ish this morning.
We just learned that eROI, the amazing agency that designed this site, snagged a Rosey Award for it! The Rosey Awards celebrate the region's best design/communication arts. Go check out the rest of the winning work at the Art Institute through Nov. 28.
We have a guilty pleasure... Or, should we say, habit? (After all, indulging in this "guilty pleasure" at least 3 times a week probably qualifies it as a full-blown habit, verging on addiction.) It's Fuller's Coffee Shop. We always get the same thing: two eggs over medium with hashbrowns, sausage and toast. And endless cups of coffee, of course. We'd go there 7 days a week if we could justify consuming so many calories before 8 a.m.
Well, we're not the only ones who are such big Fuller's fans. As we told you a few months back when filming was taking place, the diner is going to be on the Food Network's "The Secret Life of" show. A new episode on coffee shops debuts tonight at 10:30 p.m. Here's the official description:
George Duran explores the American coffee shop. When the first coffee shop opened in America, what made these stores unique and George reveals the secret behind the tradition of the bottomless cup of Joe.
Psst... if you're an early riser, tune to KGW-TV (ch. 8) tomorrow morning (Wed., Oct. 10) between 5 - 7 a.m. KGW's entertainment reporter, Drew Carney, will be spending the morning at Whole Foods in the Pearl to preview this weekend's "Pear... with a Flair" event. We hear several lucky passers-by will get the chance to earn Whole Foods gift certificates. That is... if you know what Oregon's State Fruit is.
Ten 01's resident mixologist Kelley Swenson will also be on hand for the live TV segments, demonstrating how pears can be incorporated into fresh drinks or used as beautiful drink garnishes.
Here's the full description of Whole Foods' upcoming pear event, which takes place this Saturday, Oct. 13th from 12 - 4 p.m., only at the Pearl location:
Pear...with a Flair
At Whole Foods Market we celebrate the joy of food and what food could be more impressive than our state fruit, the pear?! With more than 370 pear growers in our state producing about 800 million pears a year, it's no wonder this juicy fruit is a fall favorite. Every department around the store will be offering a delectable pear pairing for you to sample. In addition, free pear tasting classes with Chef Steve will be offered in our Salud! Kitchen at Noon and 2:00 p.m.
Halloween is just around the corner, but you won’t have to visit a haunted house to get a little creeped out. One of our favorite wine bars is hosting artist Mike Egan’s dark, yet beautiful work. Egan’s artwork, influenced by his experience working in funeral homes, will be on display at Vino Paradiso beginning Oct. 3 (First Wednesday Reception from 7-10 p.m. that night) through Nov. 25.
“I like to take a serious subject like death and mix it up with bright colors so that it is more inviting to the viewer. The color is what draws people in, then they realize that they are looking at a skeleton throwing up blood, I love it.”
For more about his work, check out this interesting interview at Our Art Site.

This month's First Thursday is jam-packed with special events and openings to choose from. The first place we're stopping, however, isn't optional. From 5-9 p.m., you'll find us gettin' pretty at F.E.Z. Studio, the new beauty boutique in the Pearl.
Tonight they're hosting a "Happy Hour," so-to-speak, complete with champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and some special deals on high-end beauty products.
The owner of the shop is a celebrity make-up artist and esthetician, so you're in good hands... after he's worked his magic, you'll be ready to hit the town... or at least a few galleries. See you there!
