New medical clinic ZoomCare posted a construction update on their website. Looks like their Pearl District location is on track for a January opening. Stop by this next First Thursday, Dec. 6, to meet them and check out their new clinic.
Happy almost-Thanksgiving. We're spending today making pies and preparing for the big day.
This season, we're thankful for lots of things... the big stuff (family), the little-but-still-quite-nice stuff (i.e. living within walking distance to world's best breakfast spot and our favorite cupcake fix), and plenty in between. What are you thankful for?
Another thing we're thankful for: mom's recipes. Every year she makes an amazing cranberry crisp pie. Pie crust, layered with cream cheese, then warm cranberries and apples, topped with a crispy streusal. The recipe after the jump, in case you'd like to try it!

We just learned that eROI, the amazing agency that designed this site, snagged a Rosey Award for it! The Rosey Awards celebrate the region's best design/communication arts. Go check out the rest of the winning work at the Art Institute through Nov. 28.
Via Delizia, one of our favorite spots for dessert and coffee, is celebrating 3 years in the Pearl. Stop by today through Nov. 21 to enjoy daily specials and try out their new fall desserts!

Via Delizia's new Pear Tarte Tatin, a caramelized pear on puff pastry with caramel and tuile served with a scoop of house-made gelato
As the holidays roll around, you can bet that parking in the Pearl will get a bit more crowded. No biggie for those of us with residential parking spots, but try having friends meet you for dinner or shopping, only to have them call exasperated after making a dozen unsuccessful loops around the block!
Luckily, in addition to the underground parking on the south end of the Pearl (near Whole Foods), the SmartPark at NW 9th and Marshall is coming in handy as the Pearl inches north. And some smart businesses, such as Kanani Pearl, are beginning to offer parking validation. (Kanani is located just 2 blocks from the garage.) Hopefully more Pearl businesses will follow suit.
We have a guilty pleasure... Or, should we say, habit? (After all, indulging in this "guilty pleasure" at least 3 times a week probably qualifies it as a full-blown habit, verging on addiction.) It's Fuller's Coffee Shop. We always get the same thing: two eggs over medium with hashbrowns, sausage and toast. And endless cups of coffee, of course. We'd go there 7 days a week if we could justify consuming so many calories before 8 a.m.
Well, we're not the only ones who are such big Fuller's fans. As we told you a few months back when filming was taking place, the diner is going to be on the Food Network's "The Secret Life of" show. A new episode on coffee shops debuts tonight at 10:30 p.m. Here's the official description:
George Duran explores the American coffee shop. When the first coffee shop opened in America, what made these stores unique and George reveals the secret behind the tradition of the bottomless cup of Joe.
The Pearl District Business Association is losing one of its best advocates - executive director Monica Spoelstra Metz has resigned effective Dec. 1 to focus on her writing career. (She recently earned a Master of Fine Arts.)
Over the past 2 1/2 years, Monica has been at the helm of many important Pearl District marketing initiatives, including launching the Explore the Pearl magazine. Her commitment to the PDBA will certainly have a lasting impact on the success of our neighborhood!
Seeing the doctor will soon be a bit more hassle-free. That's because we're getting our very own ZoomCare clinic here in the Pearl.
ZoomCare's new Pearl District location (based in the Wieden & Kennedy building on the corner of NW Davis and 13th) will open by January. It will be the 2nd location for this unique medical practice.
We've actually been to their original one, which is out at Bridgeport Village. It's a totally new take on seeing the doctor. For one, it welcomes same-day visits - even walk-ins are ok. Secondly, they're open late and on the weekends. Their philosophy is basically "Healthcare on Demand" - a very consumer-friendly approach. They also take most insurance plans.
If you want to learn more about ZoomCare before their grand opening, stop by NW Davis and 13th tonight during First Thursday festivities.
